What is metadata?
Metadata is data about data, typically a description or categorization of a body of information. The metadata for the homepage helps search engines understand what your site is about, which in turn helps to create more accurate placement in search-engine indexing and more traffic for your site.
The metadata fields for the homepage consist of the description and keywords.
Description
This required field is a concise summary of what your site is about. This description is used in the HTML header for the homepage, and may be displayed with the ++DESCRIPTION++ widget.
Syntax: HTML is not accepted in the description. Please enter only plain text.
Keywords
This optional field is a set of keywords that describe the ideas, topics and concepts addressed by your site. The keywords are used in the HTML header for the homepage.
Syntax: HTML is not accepted in the keywords field. Please enter only the plain text you would like to include in the keyword <meta> tag and the homepage's <title> tag. For best results with search engines, it is recommended that you separate keywords with spaces and avoid all punctuation. Also, "spamming" the keywords with multiple uses of the same keyword can backfire, causing search engines to ignore the phrase or even the entire page altogether. It is good practice to avoid listing the same word more than five times.
