On November 22, 1889, the Business Men’s Association of Jacksonville was established for the advancement of the general business interest of the city. The Association was reorganized as the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce in 1913.
Whether the Business Men’s Association of 1889, or the Jacksonville Area Chamber of Commerce of the 21st century, the leaders of the community make a difference. From the sinking of the coal mine in the late 1800’s, through the completion of the Central Illinois Expressway in 1992, to the current business expansions, the Chamber and its volunteer leaders have worked together to make the Jacksonville community a strong, stable area. Our mission continues to be to improve the business climate, promote economic development, and enhance the quality of life in the Jacksonville Area.
